Ted Turner Expeditions, New Mexico
Newly available for booking after a four-year renovation was completed in spring 2016, Casa Grande sits on media mogul Ted Turner’s 591,00-acre ranch, which it shares with herds of elk, deer, pronghorn antelope, bison, black bears, mountain lions, and Rocky Mountain bighorn sheep. Split over two floors, the building has seven bedrooms and nine bathrooms, an onsite greenhouse, and a grand piano. Doug Johnson, who has worked at Vermejo Park Ranch for over 30 years, leads Western-style riding excursions through the canyons of New Mexico. Watch the sun rise and fall by booking from a selection of 1-2 hour morning rides, picnic lunch rides, or all-day rides (4-5 hours, also include lunch). Groups are kept small (no more than four or six riders, depending on the trek) to ensure individual attention. Rooms from $550; Vermejo Park Ranch/40 Miles West Hwy. 555; 877-288-7637; vermejoparkranch.com.
